Ed Teach Memorial Regatta 

(September 1-2, 2017)

Sailors Colin Suvak ('19), Colleen Roney ('18), Victor Layne ('20), Tricia Stump ('18), Kat Catallo ('20), Jillian Ticatch ('21), Katie Purcell ('20), and Alex Knoop ('21) represented Virginia Sailing at the Ed Teach Memorial regatta in Hampton, VA. Riley Cup, Laser South, Women's Radial

(September 9-10, 2017)

An eventful weekend for Virginia Sailing! Sailors Colin Suvak ('19) and Cece Hopkinson ('20) competed in Annapolis, Maryland at the Laser South and Radial Open, respectively. Congratulations to Colin for qualifying for the Carl Van Duyen MAISA Men's Single-Handed Championship by placing fifth overall! Thank you to Navy and the Morgan family for hosting.

 

Alexander Singh ('19), Emma McPhail Snyder ('19), Ian Palmer ('19), Colleen Roney ('18), Victor Layne ('20), Michael Van Meter ('19), Trent Levy ('21), Garrett Levy ('21), Skyler Nuelle ('21), and Kenneth Pentimonti ('21) represented Virginia Sailing at the Riley Cup in Norfolk, Virginia. The weekend was exceptionally breezy, and the team raced hard to place 14th overall. Thank you to Old Dominion University and the Singh family for having us!

 

Colony Cup & Nevins Trophy 

(September 16-17, 2017)

This past weekend (September 16-17), Virginia sailors competed in both the Nevins Trophy at Kings Point and the Colony Cup at William and Mary.

 

Kate Green ('19), Kat Catallo ('20), Colin Suvak ('19), Colleen Roney ('18), Tricia Stump ('18), and Waverlee Harvey ('18) faced light wind at the Nevins Trophy and placed nineteenth overall. Thank you to the Catallo family for hosting!

 

Meanwhile, Emma McPhail-Snyder ('19), Michael van Meter ('20), Katie Purcell ('20), and Hannah Lothrop ('21) sailed in Williamsburg, Virginia. Despite a lack of significant breeze, the team placed sixth overall! Thanks to William & Mary for hosting.

South Fall Qualifier, MAISA Laser Elimination, & Faye Bennet Trophy

(September 23 - 24, 2017)

Sailors Colin Suvak (‘19), Colleen Roney (‘18), Kate Green (‘19), Conner Segal (‘20), and Julia Gowell (‘18) competed at ODU in the South Fall Qualifier. With beautiful weather for racing, all of the races were completed on Saturday, and the ‘Hoos placed seventh out of twelfth.  Ian Palmer (‘19), Garrett Levy (‘21), and Hannah Lothrop (‘21) sailed at Navy in the MAISA Laser Elimination and Faye Bennet Trophy as well. Thank you to Old Dominion University, Navy, the Singh family, and the Latimer family for hosting the team! Wahoowa!

Philly Fleet Race

(September 30, 2017)

This weekend, sailors Cece Hopkinson ('20), Katie Purcell ('20), Michael Van Meter ('20), Trent Levy ('21), and Jillian Ticatch ('21) traveled to Pennsylvania to compete in the Philly Fleet Race. The team was welcomed with full breeze and the first taste of fall weather. All fourteen races were completed on Saturday, with Virginia Sailing placing fifth overall. Wahoowa!

Carl Van Duyne MAISA Singles & Jen Harris Navy Fall Women's 

(October 7-8, 2017)

A busy weekend for Virginia Sailing! First off, congratulations to Colin Suvak for placing eighth out of eighteen at the Carl Van Duyne - MAISA Singles regatta at Kings Point, NY. Thank you to Kings Point and the Catallo family for hosting and Connor Segal ('20) for traveling along!

 

Our women's team traveled to Navy to compete in the Jen Harris Navy Fall Women's Regatta. Sailors Tricia Stump ('18), Kat Catallo ('20), Kate Green ('19), Waverlee Harvey ('18), Colleen Roney ('18), and Julia Gowell ('18) competed in Teams A & B and Katie Purcell ('20) raced lasers in Team C. Thank you to Navy and the Latimer family for hosting the team. Wahoowa!

Henry Luce Trophy - MAISA 

(October 14-15, 2017)

Virginia Sailing has qualified for the War Memorial! Sailors Colin Suvak ('19), Colleen Roney ('18), Trent Levy ('21), Garrett Levy ('21), and Connor Segal ('20) competed in the Henry Luce Trophy at Cornell University this weekend and placed seventh overall. We'll keep you updated as to how we do in two weeks. Wahoowa!

Jefferson Cup

(October 14-15, 2017)

Virginia Sailing hosted our very own Jefferson Cup this weekend! Saturday had very light wind, forcing the day to be called at three pm. Sunday was beautiful and breezy, allowing the regatta to be completed with eight races in each division by early afternoon.

 

Thank you so much to everyone who made this regatta possible - all the teams who came - the University of Maryland, American University, North Carolina State University, University of Pittsburgh, Catholic University of America, and Virginia Tech; our sailors who competed - Cece Hopkinson ('20), Kat Catallo ('20), Katie Purcell ('20), Hannah Lothrop ('21), Michael Van Meter ('20), Alex Knoop ('21), Kenneth Pentimonti ('21), and Jillian Ticatch ('21); our members who volunteered - Michael Van Meter, Cece Hopkinson, Nick Baldwin ('21); our executive board who organized the regatta; Arthur McKenney, whose boat we borrowed; and our faculty advisor, JT Lendon, for serving on the race committee. And shout out to Dean Groves for attending on Sunday!

 

We love being able to host Jefferson Cup every fall and appreciate everyone working so hard to make it happen. Wahoowa!

MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy

(October 21-22, 2017)

Over October 21-22, our Lady Hoos competed at NY Maritime in the MAISA Women’s Fall Dinghy regatta. Despite light and variable wind, sailors Kate Green (‘19), Tricia Stump (‘18), Kat Catallo (‘20), and Colleen Roney (‘18) sailed hard and placed tenth overall. War Memorial

(Oct. 28 - 29, 2017)

Sailors Colin Suvak ('19), Alexander Singh ('19), Colleen Roney ('18), and Victor Layne ('20) faced particularly heavy breeze this past weekend as they competed in the War Memorial, held at Hobart & William Smith Colleges. The team placed thirteenth out of eighteen teams. 

Hap Moore Team Race Regatta

(November 4 - 5, 2017)

And that’s a wrap! Here are sailors Ian Palmer (‘19), Victor Layne (‘20), Kate Green (‘19), Emma McPhail-Snyder (‘19), Waverlee Harvey (‘18), Colin Suvak (‘19), and Colleen Roney (‘18) at Virginia Sailing’s last regatta for the Fall 2017 season - the Hap Moore Team Race Regatta.
