Spring 2018 Regatta Results:

George Washington Team Race

(March 3-4, 2018)

The weekend of March 3-4, 2018, sailors Jillian Ticatch ('21), Colleen Roney ('18), Rossi McCall ('19), Colin Suvak ('19), Alex Singh ('19), Connor Segal ('20), Hannah Lothrop ('21) sailed at George Washington University for the GW Team Race! This was the first regatta in the MAISA Team Race series, which UVA just joined this year. The conditions on Saturday were too breezy to sail due to the nor'easter, however they were able to complete a full round robin on Sunday! A huge thanks to Casey Firth for coaching and taking pictures, and to the Roney Family for hosting!

John Jackson Memorial Team Race

(March 10-11, 2018)

The weekend of March 10-11, sailors Yash Kalburgi ('19), Kat Catallo ('20), Colleen Roney ('18), Colin Suvak ('19), Hannah Lothrop ('21), Ian Palmer ('19), Connor Segal ('20), and Victor Layne ('20) sailed in the John Jackson Memorial Team Race, hosted by Georgetown. This was the second event in the MAISA Team Race Series. There was a wide array of conditions throughout the weekend, but our sailors did a great job of adapting to the shifty wind. Thank you to Casey Firth for coaching and taking pictures again this weekend, and to the Roney Family for hosting! 

The Graham Hall Team Race

(March 17-18, 2018)

The weekend of March 17-18, we sent sailors Kate Green ('19), Waverlee Harvey ('18), Julia Gowell ('18), Colleen Roney ('18), Colin Suvak ('19), Tricia Stump ('18) and Alex Singh ('19) to the Naval Academy to compete in the Graham Hall Team Race. Our sailors saw light and shifty conditions on the first day of racing, and beautiful, steady conditions the following day. Congratulations to our sailors for finishing in 15/16, and thanks to the Latimer Family for hosting our team!

William and Mary Spring Open

(March 17-18, 2018)

The weekend of March 17-18, we sent sailors Michael Van Meter ('20), Hannah Lothrop ('21), Emma McPhail-Snyder ('19), Katie Purcell ('20), Jillian Ticatch ('21), Trent Levy ('21), and Alex G ('20) to William and Mary for the 2018 Spring Open! The conditions on Saturday morning were shifty, resulting in a brief postponement until midday, and conditions continued to be shifty throughout the day. Day two had much better conditions, with the breeze blowing between 15 and 20 knots. With two teams sailing, we were able to place in 5th and 9th places out of 12 teams. Thank you to our sailors for their hard work, and to the William and Mary Sailing Team for hosting us!

MAISA/SAISA

(March 24-25, 2018)

Sailors Kate Green ('19), Katie Purcell ('20), Kat Catallo ('20), Yash Kalburgi ('19), and Kenneth Pentimonti ('21) competed at the MAISA/SAISA Regatta at Hampton. The first day had very light conditions, and only 4 races in each division were completed. The second day had much more consistent conditions at around 12-15 knots. Our sailors placed in 3rd overall! Congratulations to our sailors, and thank you to the Singh Family for hosting!

Admiral Moore Team Race

(March 24-25, 2018)

The weekend of March 24-25, sailors Colleen Roney ('18), Colin Suvak ('19), Tricia Stump ('18), Trent Levy ('21), Conor Segal ('20), and Michael Van Meter ('20) went to the Admiral Moore Team Race at NY Maritime. On the first day, conditions were fairly light and shifty, and the second day had great, steady conditions at around 20 knots. Congratulations to the sailors for finishing in 8th, and thanks to the Catallo Family for hosting!

MAISA Team Race Challenge

(March 31-April 1, 2018)

Sailors Ian Palmer ('19), Brian Lithen ('20), Katie Purcell ('20), Skyler Nuelle ('21), Alex Singh ('19), Colin Suvak ('19), and Colleen Roney ('18) sailed at the MAISA Team Race Challenge at Cornell University. The breeze was light and shifty on Saturday, and built throughout the day. The competitors were able to complete all 48 races on Saturday. Congratulations to our sailors for placing 7th!

The Grant Trophy

(April 14-15, 2018)

This past weekend, sailors Connor Segal ('20), Alex Singh ('19), Colin Suvak ('19), and Jillian Ticatch ('21) traveled to Hobart to sail in The Grant Trophy. The competitors completed eight races in each division on Saturday, in very cold and breezy conditions around 15 knots. There was no racing on Sunday due to a winter storm warning. Congratulations to our sailors for placing 4th out of 17 teams! 

George Washington Women's Invitational

(April 14-15, 2018)

Sailors Colleen Roney ('18), Cece Hopkinson ('20), Katie Purcell ('20), Kat Catallo ('20), Tricia Stump ('18), Wave Harvey ('18), and Julia Gowell ('18, not pictured) sailed in the GW woman's invitational. The weather on Saturday was sunny and 80 degrees, however was very windy at around 20 knots. Conversely, Sunday was cold and rainy with wind at about 15 knots. Through two days of heavy wind sailing, our sailors placed 12th and 15th. Congratulations to our sailors, and thank you to the Roney Family for hosting!

MAISA Women's Championship

(April 21-22, 2018)

Sailors Colleen Roney ('18), Katie Purcell ('20), Kat Catallo ('20), Tricia Stump ('18), Wave Harvey ('18), and Kate Green ('19) sailed in the MAISA Women's Championship, hosted by ODU. Saturday was fairly light, remaining at about 7 knots throughout the day and clocking right throughout the day. On Sunday morning, there was a wind delay until 1PM, and later picked up to 15 knots for a great day of sailing. Our women's team placed in 10th out of 15, only one spot from qualifying for nationals! Congratulations to our sailors, and thank you to the Harvey Family for hosting, and to Commodore Alexander Singh ('19) for coaching!

America Trophy

(April 14-15, 2018)

Sailors Colleen Roney ('18), Colin Suvak ('19), Katie Purcell ('20), Connor Segal ('20), Tricia Stump ('18), and Ian Palmer ('19) sailed in the America Trophy at St. Mary's. The weather on Saturday was beautiful, beginning with a light southerly and clocking east throughout the day. Sunday was a breezier day with wind coming from the Northwest. Through two days of sailing, our sailors placed 15th. Congratulations to our sailors!
